the backstory
Great Start Butte is an integrated hub for early childhood services in Butte County. The goal of the logo portion of this project was to create a unique, locally resonant visual identity that reflects the mission of Great Start Butte while ensuring it aligns with California’s Universal Pre-K (UPK) branding guidelines. We also created a website for Great Start Butte that felt modern, friendly, and timeless, and that aligned with their new logo and branding guidelines.
Great Start Butte is a client of MC2, a marketing, strategy, and design company based in Chico, California. This project was completed in partnership with MC2.
the brand
Great Start Butte wanted a distinct logo and brand that reflected Butte County’s identity. It is meant to connect to children, families, and early childhood education, and they were looking for a design that felt modern, friendly, and timeless.
The logo also needed to be cohesive with California UPK, using California UPK’s color palette and co-branding guidelines as inspiration. It needed to maintain uniqueness while allowing itself to harmonize with the broader UPK initiative.

Now that Great Start Butte had their logo and brand guidelines completed, they were ready to tackle their website. Using the provided content, we created a wireframe for their website that reflected their new friendly and modern brand. The audience of this site was made up of three groups:
Families: Parents and guardians navigating early learning options for their children.
Educators and Providers: Early childhood professionals and agencies working within Butte County.
Community Leaders: Organizations and stakeholders supporting early childhood education initiatives.
